Process safety and culture, strategy
Peter entered the offshore oil and gas industry in the 1970’s as a production engineer in the North Sea. Since then he has been a champion and practitioner of process safety.
His broad international experience in operations, projects and corporate roles provides the foundation for understanding the importance of integrating health, safety, environment, community relations and security within core business processes. Peter was an Offshore Installation Manager with Conoco (now ConocoPhillips) and fully understands operational demands.
He was seconded to the UK Health and Safety Executive in the aftermath of the Piper Alpha disaster to provide industry input during the creation of the new offshore safety regulatory regime in the North Sea. Peter founded Premier Safety Associates in 1997.
Peter has extensive experience developing safety management systems, integrating within core business processes and helping clients develop ownership. Effective ownership at all levels of a company, including contractors, is the key factor for long-term successful outcomes.
He challenges leadership thinking and is a prominent exponent of culture transformation as the key to prevention of major accidental events.
In his spare time Peter enjoys theatre, photography, soccer, running and hiking up mountains.
